Clary
Sage |
Antiseptic, tonic. Clary
sage balances sebum levels, so it is beneficial for all skin and hair
types. Avoid throughout pregnancy. (1), p. 296. |
Eucalyptus |
Antibacterial, anti-rheumatic,
antiseptic, deodorant. It clears the head wonderfully and relieves
headaches. Eucalyptus is an excellent insect repellant. Overall, it
is stimulating, refreshing and clearing. (1), pp. 339-340. |
Geranium |
Antidepressant,
antiseptic. One of the most useful essential oils to detoxify
the lympatic system and help eliminate cellulite. A valuable skin-care
essential oil, it is helpful in balancing sebum production. (1), p.
278. |
Juniper |
Anti-rheumatic. Avoid
during pregnancy and do not use if you have kidney disease. (1), p.335. |

Lavender |
Antiseptic. Many
of lavender's properties are due to its prime actions of balancing
and normalizing body functions and emotions. Overall, lavender is
soothing, calming and relaxing. A few drops in the bath or a drop
or two on the pillow help to combat insomnia, and a couple of drops
rubbed into the temples relieves headaches. Avoid in early pregnancy,
especially if there is a history of miscarriage. (1), pp.272-273. |

Lemon
|
Antiseptic, tonic. Lemon
is useful in skin care to brighten the complexion and is indicated
for oily skin and acne. (1), p.322. |
Lemongrass |
Bacteriacide,
antiseptic, tonic. Overall lemongrass is cooling, refreshing and stimulating.
(1), p.355. |

Mandarin |
"Antiseptic. Mandarin
is one of the safest essential oils and is particularly recommended
for children." (1), p.320.
"Aromatherapy use: Insomnia, nervous tension, restlessness, digestive
problems." (2), p. 124.
A cheering and uplifting oil. |
Orange
|
Anti-depressant, antiseptic,
tonic. Orange is good in massage and baths for anxiety, stress and
insomnia. Psychologically, orange is cheering and uplifting. (1),
p.319. |
Palmarosa |
Antiseptic, tonic.
Palmarosa is much used in all skin-care preparations for its lovely
fragrance, sebum-balancing and hydrating properties. It also helps
to generate healthy new cells. Palmarosa is suited to all skin types,
but is especially good for dry and slightly damaged skin. Overall
it is balancing, refreshing and soothing. (1), pp. 353-354. |
Rosemary |
Stimulant, tonic, antiseptic.
Overall, rosemary is reviving, refreshing and strengthening. It is
used for relaxing tight, over-worked muscles and detoxifying the lymphatic
system. Rosemary is reputed to help hair growth, makes a good tonic
for the scalp and helps to prevent dandruff. Avoid throughout pregnancy
and if suffering from epilepsy. (1), pp.293-294. |

Tea-tree |
Tea-tree is the most
'medicinal' of the essential oils, with powerful anti-microbial activity
against all three of the infectious organisms: bacteria, viruses and
fungi. |
Ylang-ylang |
Antidepressant,
antiseptic, aphrodisiac. (1), p.280. |
